"Publishing is a war of attrition. Breaking even and living to fight another day is a good outcome." Great quote, Russell. I'm living to fight another day in the war of attrition!
One of my favorite reads. On a personal note, I'd encourage anyone to manifest their dream of becoming a published author and go for it! A mentor who's published several books urged me to get moving on this book of mine a year ago. It's hard when you're at a place in your life where you're undergoing multiple surgeries and you're unsure of yourself and where you fit. But, this book SPORTZZ FRUM HOME is keeping me going and a second one [also about sports, namely soccer history] will follow.
I've never articulated it so clearly, but I think I've been making the same bet: "make many different things and have a few of them make a splash based on the sheer volume of my material alone." Thanks for mentioning my artist date post!
Wow. So many gems and my interview with Sarah is definitely one of them. Didn't know about Beehives new system. I'll soon share a video with some who uses it.
Thanks for the shout out, Russell!
I bet this round up took hours!
And it shows how many stories you read.
I'm thinking to continue giving shout-outs in a few weeks when live is a bit slower and not as busy as it is now.
Russell, thanks so much for mentioning me here. I always love your thought provoking pieces that serve as an ignition switch of new ideas 💡 for me. Appreciate you brotha.
Great job on the piece, Russell. Your approach to handling projects is similar to mine. I always give every project my best, but I also set a time limit for each one. If a project shows promise, I invest more time into it. If it doesn't, I simply move on to the next one.
Did I crawl into your brain or what? My writing philosophy is exactly the same. It just took me longer to get there. I spent a lot of years chasing a screenwriting career. Now I'm just writing for free for me, mostly, but I have something to show for it. And parts of my catalogue show signs of life. 👊 And that leaves me feeling fine, thanks for asking. I'm having fun, following a very similar path to yours-- the news of your (you say modest, I say Wow) success -- gives me even more hope that staying the course is the course. I currently have 2 book series on Amazon, and am adding to both. I've also started two new book series on Substack, and I have two other projects started. That's 6 in major writing mode. 🫣 Haven't counted them, lately, so it seems like a lot but I can manage them. It keeps me interested, they are all moving forward at a good pace, and it's fun. 🥂 Here's to many mini success and never giving up!
Yay! I also started in screenwriting, even had a couple small things options and produced. I love that publishing actually gives you tangible results, though :) Cheers!
Thanks so much for the shout out, Russell! "Annie Scott just wants to be normal" is the best line I could ever hope for. I might ask for this on my gravestone...

Thank you for reading! You're amazing at summarizing what's interesting about an article in a few words.
I'm excited to read about the medicine-less hospitals!
Thanks!
I like your strategy! And thanks for giving my piece on Feral Stack a shout out 💕
Yay!
What you said makes sense thanks Russell - saved a few of your posts to read later
Yay!
And thanks so much for sharing my post on What Publishers Do for Authors1
You’re welcome!
So with you on "it's not glamorous." It takes time to build a career as an author!
For sure!
Another great Stack of Authors! Keep up the informative, helpful work, Russell!
Yay! Thanks!

And of course in Q3 I'd love to interview you.
Would you be down for this?
Absolutely! Would love to.

Are we the same person? I don't think we've ever been seen in the same room together. HA
