Welcome to the Author Stack. This publication sits at the intersection of craft and commerce, helping writers build more sustainable businesses that allow them to thrive.
I really am a happy writer….but I’m massively paranoid someone’s going to pinch my work as it’s another take on a very well known non fiction….people say oh it’s copy written….but that’s only when it’s finished???? Now I’m not happy 😳
It’s definitely valid, but so is getting struck by lightning. Like, at any point you could be struck by lightning, but if you worried about all the things that could injury you you would never take action.
So, you probably won’t have your stuff stolen, and the best way to avoid it is to build a platform and an audience who is loyal to you and loves your voice.
No reason to assume the worst, especially when the only way to truly prevent it is to not publish. It’s its own self fulfilling prophesy. If you don’t want your stuff stolen, never talk about it, which is a good way to not publish or feed yourself not to leave the safe comfortable life you have.
If you haven’t read my latest piece, it’s a good one for this.
Do you mean copyright? Copy written is a different thing. Whether your thing is copyrighten or not, somebody can still steal it, change it, and get away with it. They can even steal the exact wording and upload it as their own. You can send DMCA notices, but unless you sue them, you don’t have much recourse. You can file for copyright, but you still have to sue to enforce it.
Maybe you should worry more about making something good enough to steal than worrying sombody will steal it. If somebody sees value, they will steal it, whether you copyright it doesn’t matter. It’s not like putting something in a vault.
Once something is out into the world, people can steal it. The more successful it is, the more likely they will want to steal it.
It’s like learning to skate and not wanting to skin your knee. It’s part of it. You have to take the good with the bad.
I hope that's not entirely irrelevant but I couldn't help but notice that the Author Stack is both on Substack and Kit: https://the-author-stack.ck.page. How is it possible to integrate one with the other?
Zapier answered the question, thank you. Sorry if that was confusing, but I have never had a newsletter before, so I don't understand the tech behind it all.
Please add PAYPAL Pay In 4, which would dramatically increase subscriber base. Thanks, Russell.
I am not a developer at Substack. I have no control over how you pay. Sorry.

Thank you! At least now I know my paranoia is not for nothing….i know people will copy it when it’s published!
It’s totally new information on an old case….ho hum!
Seems like making a fuss about Ai is really redundant if you can steal work that easily!!!
I am trying not to use Ai as that terrifies me too! But I could really do with it!
Thanks for the Info….i sound a real scaredy-cat but I’m not really 😂

Thank you so much for all your advice….its going to cause trouble when I do publish….which is the best bit!!! Thank you once again. Karen.

I don’t understand the question. People have had blogs and mailing lists for decades. I integrate them through Zapier.
