From 2008-2011 I ran a blog called The LA Grind all about breaking into the movie industry. These are highlights from that archive
People ask me often how long I’ve been working with writers and creative types. Until recently I’ve just told them a long time, but I unearthed my first blog “The LA Grind” a little bit ago, which ran from 2008-2011. There's some indication that I had a production blog before this, but in my memory this is the first time I ever stuck with a blog for any length of time or got any recognition from it. I started this blog on January 2nd of 2008, and it ran for 140 posts.
Not all of them are worth sharing, but I found a lot of what I wrote very readable and interesting. Some of the concepts I still talk about today, like that you're going to suck and that's okay, were around even back then.
Mostly, though, it documents a writer trying to break into the film industry from the nascent moment until they basically gave up and started to work in publishing. Even after this blog ended, it would take more that 2 years for Connections to come out.
