This is a story about my first publishing deal. Had it gone differently, I would be a different human now.
I started work on Ichabod Jones: Monster Hunter in September of 2010, after having my first book, The Wannabes, utterly rejected from every publisher at the show.
Ichabod was my big screw you to the publishing industry, the book that nobody would publish, and nobody could publish, because it featured a psychopath as a hero.
I was determined to do this book regardless, but I decided to submit it to publishers after completing the first five pages.
Just like with the Wannabes, they all said no. They all said no except for one publisher, Viper Comics.
Their deal wasn't great, but I was willing to lose every dollar on Ichabod in order to break into comics, figuring that I could make my money back on other books.
So I signed it and started working on the four issue mini-series.
I was elated, frankly, as anybody would be who got a publishing contract. I thought my problems were over, honestly.
